12월 31일 한국에서 보냈던 국제우편택배가 3월 23일 히로시마의 집에 도착했다. 커다란 종이 박스 안에는 아끼는 책들, 한국 음식과 조미료, 완충재 겸 옷가지가 들어있었다. 금방 도착할 줄 알고 넣었던 겨울옷은 이제 입을 일이 없어졌고, 떡볶이떡은 유통기한이 지나버렸다. 나물무침을 하기 위해 보냈던 들깨가루를 보니 허브마약이 유행하는 일본에서 세관에 걸릴까 조마조마했던 일이 떠올랐다. 한국 우체국에 조사를 신청한 후, 4주 간의 공식 조사기간 동안 한국 우체국의 담당자와 오사카 우편집중국에 번갈아 가며 전화하면서 애간장을 태웠다. 아무 성과 없이 조사 기간이 지난 후 피해보상을 신청하려던 터에 지난 목요일 한국측 담당자를 통해 일본 우체국에서 물건을 찾았다는 메일이 도착했다. 그리고 월요일인 오늘 내 눈앞에 사라졌던 물건들과 석 달 만에 재회할 수 있었다.
